Thomas Nelson Community College will celebrate the work of Gloria Coker with an Art Gallery Reception September 26th at 5:30 p.m. in Templin Hall at the Hampton campus. Gloria Coker was an illustrator for the Newport News, Virginia Daily Press (a Chicago Tribune newspaper) newsroom for twelve years before pursuing her career as a professional fine artist. Her work there included illustrating newsroom and feature stories as well as courtroom art, which appeared in the newspaper and on TV. Gloria’s work is featured in numerous places through out the community. Her work was used in posters for the Harborfest in Norfolk and for three years for posters in Hampton Bay Days. Large pieces of children by Gloria hang in the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk. A painting of the submarine “Newport News” is in the collection of Harbor Bank with prints in every Newport News public school. Visit her website at gloriacokerfineart.com.
